Dual diagnosis of ADHD and autism: Implications for treatment

While these disorders are not on the same spectrum, they share some overlapping symptoms and risk factors. Understanding the relationship between ADHD and ASD is crucial for accurate diagnosis and effective. Both occur at high rates in the general population with Autism considered the fastest-growing developmental condition with prevalence rates around 2.8% in children 3-17 (National Survey of Children’s Health). Where ADHD is estimated at 5-11% (Allely, 2014; Visser et al., 2014).

Participants completing this program will be able to:

  1. Diagnosis ADHD
  2. Diagnosis Autism
  3. Identify the symptoms associated with ADHD and autism.
  4. Explore the benefits of ABA and CBT in treating disorders.
  5. Explore the risk factors associated with ADHD and autism.
  6. Develop a treatment plan addressing ADHD and autism.
  7. Explore the benefits of individual therapy and parent education.

Substance use treatment gender and sexual orientation influences

Gender and sexual orientation are important factors to consider when understanding substance use trends in individuals and setting intervention, policy, and health programs. SUDs may progress differently for women than for men. Women have unique needs that should be addressed during SUD treatment. Women often have a shorter history of using certain substances, such as cocaine, opioids, cannabis or alcohol prior to seeking treatment.

Domestic violence is not uncommon. One in four women and one in nine men in the United States have reported experiencing sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking in their lifetime. Domestic violence can take many forms. It’s important to recognize that the signs may differ depending on the relationship.
